Bridging the Gap between Finance and Quality Care

David has truly lived to fulfill his primary piece of career advice for others – constantly look for new experiences and exposures. At McLean Hospital, David’s career began in the Patient Financial Services Department, and then moved to Emerson Hospital in the Planning and Decision Support Department. In an attempt to finally quench his desire for diverse and challenging opportunities, David found his home at UMass Memorial.

“As a system, UMass Memorial is committed to high-quality patient care. I have the opportunity to link finance with clinical outcomes, which increases the advancement we can offer to our patients.” Most important to David is that his career at UMass Memorial allows him “to contribute to quality patient care” in his own way.

David’s career at UMass Memorial also allows him to continue to grow professionally as the health care organization invests in his development. In 2010, David was nominated to be a part of the Strategic Leadership Development Program. This six-month program incorporates leadership assessments, individual coaching, on-line learning, discussion forums and team-based action learning projects.

“My fellow team members were very willing to give constructive feedback which allowed us to grow together,” comments David on the experience as a whole. “Having one-on-one meetings with different senior leaders was an opportunity I will never forget; listening to their experiences and gaining some of their knowledge was invaluable.”
