Francis

Making a Difference throughout UMass Memorial

Ever since launching his career at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Francis has grown by leaps and bounds within the organization—first as an intern, and later as a full-time employee. During his college years Francis began by interning within the organization and people development (OPD) area of the Human Resources Department. Soon after graduating from college, he transitioned into a position as an OPD assistant adminsitering our Tuition Reimbursement Program. Francis chose to start his career with OPD because he was inspired by the direct impact comprehensive training programs had on our organization and our success.

One of Francis’ proudest moments occurred when a former patient care associate came to him after several years of submitting tuition reimbursement requests to show him her nursing degree. Because of his exceptional attention to detail and helpful attitude, Francis was able to assist his fellow employee to graduate from nursing school on time and with little debt.

Francis then accepted an analyst position with the UMass Memorial/UMass Medical Center for the Advancement of Primary Care. In this role, he has the opportunity to support decision making in primary care and the chance to work with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, which shares a campus with UMass Memorial. He greatly enjoys the new responsibilities that come with the integration of the clinical system and the medical school. As a result of his entire experience, Francis describes himself as proud to support the organization in its mission to be a workplace of choice.

To future applicants, Francis recommends diligence and patience. He describes UMass Memorial as a large organization with many opportunities for success and career enhancement. Finding the right fit may take time. Francis also recommends volunteering, which he recognizes as a great opportunity to learn about the organization and get “a foot in the door.”
