Music Speaks to the Soul

One of the great examples of a nontraditional career is the story of a hospice worker employed at UMass Memorial who has become a musical therapist. Tomoka joined UMass Memorial with a degree and strong background in music. Her career and passion for caring evolved into a position where she helps heal and comfort patients using the skill of her hands and her auditory talents. Using a guitar, harp and a variety of percussion instruments, Tomoka helps patients every day to manage conditions such as stress, anxiety, anger, dementia and depression.
